Between the heat and the humidity, summer can be a tough time when it comes to achieving a flawless look. We sat down with Maggie King from MKUP The Beauty Studio to get some essential summer beauty tips and tricks.
What makeup trends are hot this summer?
Glowing/bronzed looks with strategically placed highlights are timeless. The matte skin look is out—skin should look like skin and have a natural glow and finish. Cream bronzers are amazing to help achieve this look. Lip and cheek stains are also versatile and easy-to-use additions for any style.
How do I achieve the no-makeup fresh look for summer?
Try going for less makeup and more natural enhancements. Opt for oil-free tinted moisturizers in place of full coverage foundation and heavy setting powders. Try lash extensions, lash lifts and tints, and brow tinting that will last you several weeks and eliminate the amount of daily makeup products needed.
How do I keep my makeup from running down my face in the heat?
Use silicone-based primers and oil free moisturizers. You can use a lightweight translucent Hyaluronic setting powder to set makeup in place to help it last longer. Oil blotting sheets are also fantastic to remove oil and perspiration when you’re on-the-go.
What is the one product you would recommend to everyone for the warmer months?
Besides oil-free SPF, all day, everyday, blotting papers are an inexpensive must-have and can be purchased at your go-to beauty store. A cheap dupe alternative? Cigarette rolling papers do the trick!
Where should I focus my attention for skin care in the summer?
Not sleeping in your makeup and really cleansing your face is key. You’re perspiring more, so your skin needs a good clean. SPF during the day is a must. Try opting for oil-free, face specific SPF’s to avoid clogging your pores. Other favorites for the summer months include cooling eye creams, BB and CC creams with SPF, dark spot correctors, and iced face/eye rollers that you can keep in your fridge for a refreshing at-home treatment.
How do I make my blowout last longer during humid weather?
Invest in some good products! Root lift spray, heat protectant, and smoothing oils can help flyaways and unruly hair from returning to their natural texture or frizzing.
I get too hot with my hair down in the summer. Any tips for up-styles other than the classic pony?
Try sprucing up the messy top buns by incorporating barrettes, headbands, resin/clips, and scrunchies to add personal touch and show your style. Adding additional texture with texture sprays and hair crimping can also help take your style to the next level.
