Profiles of local organizations doing the greater good in our communities
Do you or your children have a passion for music? Music for Everyone, a nonprofit charitable organization, supports and offers the gift of music right here in the Susquehanna Valley. The group’s mission is to "cultivate the power of music as an educational and community building tool.” Since 2007, Music for Everyone has invested almost $600,000 in school and community music programs and initiatives in Lancaster County. In terms of education, they provide grants to schools to purchase instruments, invite professional musicians to provide "music mentorship" to children and offer scholarships to music education majors. The program’s community initiatives include placing pianos downtown during the summer for all to play (Keys for the City), sponsoring music on Third (Music) Fridays, producing an annual CD of Lancaster musicians and sponsoring "open to all" community chorus and ukulele groups. Music for Everyone is also holding the Lancaster Festival of Voices, an yearly celebration of the vocal arts, on March 28. During this time, when school and community music programs are facing severe budget cuts, this organization is working to make sure music remains accessible to everyone.

Apps we Love: Peapod
Giant Food Stores has announced a service that many have been waiting for: smartphone grocery shopping. Customers of select Giant locations can now use the Peapod app, which allows users to pick out items from their device, pay and schedule a time to have it loaded into their car. At this time, pick-up service is available at the Camp Hill Giant on Trindle Road and the Harrisburg Giant on Linglestown Road. Shoppers can log on to the app or Giant’s website, where they can quickly create a list or casually “browse the aisles.” Customers then set a convenient time for pick up, when personal shoppers will have the items ready to load into their car. Peapod also offers a product quality guarantee, special deals and the ability for users to save their grocery lists for future purchases. This service is free, there is no minimum purchase and coupons and bonus cards are accepted.
