The Big Day

The Theme
Classic outdoor elegance. Italianate elements like lemons set off the ivory, yellow and blue scheme for a rustic, yet elegant, vibe like that of the Italian-inspired villa. Built in 1908, the 30 plus−room Kings Gap Mansion was once owned by Sarah’s great-grandfather. Situated atop South Mountain with a commanding view of Cumberland Valley, Kings Gap, now a public park, was a favorite date spot for this couple.
The Threads
Sarah wore an off-white lace gown that flared at the knees, with a scallop- edged sweetheart neckline. A champagne sash set off tiny back buttons and a white ostrich feather. She wore her mother’s veil and blue satin made- to-order wedges. The bridesmaids wore blue chiffon. The groom’s only specification: Bow ties.
The Details
Fresh-looking and summery lemons filled tall glass vases, held signs, and starred in mossy arrangements. The caterer served end- less batches of the signature drink, blueberry limoncello coolers. Ivory satinessa and taupe pintuck linens made a perfect foil for centerpieces of craspedia (billy balls), Fuji mums, and mini callas, while white florals featured mums, roses, curly willow and feathers. Boutonnieres combined a white calla with burgundy-tipped alstromeria. Exquisite piping on the cake closely mirrored the intricate lace on the bridal gown. A downtown marquee congratulated the couple and cited Sarah’s favorite quote from Princess Bride, “As you wish.”
The Cuisine
Hammered silver trays held openers like cheddar risotto balls and chilled cucumber soup shooters, and an iced coffee buffet rounded out the upscale American dinner.
The Favor Alternative
In lieu of a traditional favor, a scroll tied with blue ribbon announced a donation for scholarships to Carlisle’s YMCA Strong Kids Camp, where the bride was a camp counselor.
The Return Favor
Always a groomsman, never a groom, Kevin reciprocated for all of the weddings he’d been in by asking 8 (one more than Sarah) attendants. Kevin: “I had a lot of practice rounds.”

Inside Jokes
“Finally!” was heard many times throughout the day, since Kevin and Sarah “started dating in 6th grade”—if passing notes and holding hands counts.
The Find
Everything! But possibly the most note-worthy was Couture Cakery’s gluten-free cake and cupcakes.
