THE THEME:
Tiffany blue, lavender and bling. An evening wedding centering around family and friends, conducted by Sheena’s childhood priest. Blue strapless dresses, ties and Invicta watches. French macarons. a bright blue bouquet and unforgettable heels. Glam invites that introduced the diamond solitaire motif, a hint at the gorgeous bling to come.
THE BLING:
If it wasn’t moving, and sometimes even if it was, Sheena made it shimmer, tastefully. Jewels on the tables, sugary glitter on marshmallow pops and on the bejeweled cake, with its Tiffany bows. Tiffany bracelets on the bridesmaids, brooches in Sheena’s bouquet and dazzle on her dress and belt, in her hair, on her wrists, her ears, her neck, her fingers. Both moms, carrying mini-bouquets, sparkled in covetable dresses. Blue lighting, unreleased blue Hershey kisses and blue champagne.
THE STARS:
Sheena’s intricate engagement ring with diamonds and sapphires and her fabulous bedazzled shoes.
THE HITCHES:
It was hot, in the 90s, and humid. Worse, the father of the groom and the floral designer were both rushed to the hospital, the father missing his speech at the rehearsal dinner, the florist texting pictures to his staff for set-up.
THE SURPRISES:
An instant slideshow of the wedding. A Frank Sinatra impersonator singing Sheena’s parents’ wedding song for their 30th anniversary. Appearances on the dance floor by a round, sparkly Hershey’s Kiss and a tall, dark and handsome Milk chocolate bar. AJ’s dance moves on the stage, his tuxedo collar, and his striped socks.
THE QUOTE:
Sheena’s son Jonathan, perched atop a chair, spoke at the reception: “AJ and Sheena [Mom] were meant to be married because they were meant for each other.” A long swallow, then, “I’m so happy we’re a family.”
