THE THEME
Aly’s gardening side influenced this country-garden-chic wedding. Abundant, textured bouquets incorporated peonies, ranunculus, craspedia (billy balls), succulents, and Queen Anne’s lace. Contrasts abounded in Lime Spring Farm’s lush rose garden and painted barn, with shabby chic bunting and classy cuisine.
THE RELATIONSHIP
College boy in towel coming out of shower meets stylish neatnik, drives truck onto beach in freezing weather to propose (and surf/fish). Kneeling on sand, guy can’t get ring out of pocket. Girl says yes anyway. Guy and girl pray. Relationship thrives. Girl grows veggies; guy grills. Girl sets and passes volleyball; guy blocks and spikes. Couple agrees to disagree on politics and avoid playing on the same tennis team.
THE THREADS
Aly’s sheath lace dress with its open back was the perfect foil for Kyle’s Great Gatsby seersucker. The couple’s shoes (Kyle’s brown desert boots versus Aly’s blush pink, flowery Badgley Mischkas) reflect their differences. Similarly laid back versus elegant, the wedding party juxtaposed vibrant silky corals with cotton stripes and checks. Somehow Aly found a man who likes to shop, spending hours at the Tanger Outlets, purchasing—and then exchanging—6 pairs of pants and jackets in 6 sizes.
THE DETAILS
Bunting topped a tiny, textured cake, with the couple sharing their favorite desserts: Aly’s fruit tarts and Kyle’s cheesecakes. The locally sourced, sophisticated fare, embellished with nasturtium petals, offered crab cakes, Caribbean mango chicken, or sweet chili-rubbed beef tenderloin, with braised artichoke hearts and lentil ragout for the vegetarians. Homemade whoopie pies at each place gave a nod to Lancaster. Endearing petal buckets matched the faded wooden centerpieces, banners and seating charts, displayed on a repurposed window.
THE HITCH
Everyone thought the best man, known for pranks, was joking when he said he ripped his pants on the now-classic men’s jumping picture. No joke. A groomsman’s mom living nearby fixed the epic rip; luckily, she didn’t lose the rings that were still in the pockets. Clueless, the 120 guests scoured the grounds looking for the rings.
