If I had to zero in on one question that comes up more than any other, it would be “what color do you think I should paint my walls?”
Innately, I think all of us are attracted to specific tones and shades; however, it’s the search for that illusive color, the one that will pull everything together, that often proves to be the biggest challenge.
As 2016 comes to a close, and a new year is on the horizon, I have assembled what I see as the hottest hues that everyone will be talking about.
Neutral Territory
1. Benjamin Moore HC-172 Revere Pewter
Although colonial in name, this subtle modern gray is a perfect backdrop for almost any space. It is one of those wonderful chameleon colors that changes with light and even time of day. Crisp, clean and the perfect understated gray. This one is number one on my list for a reason. 90 percent of the walls in my home are Revere Pewter.
2. Benjamin Moore 984 Stone Hearth
The word “greige” best describes this fantastic neutral. A combination of gray and beige, its warm undertones create a contemporary backdrop. It is definitely not your grandmother’s beige.
3. Benjamin Moore HC-83 Grant Beige
its ever so subtle green undertone brings an organic quality to this neutral tone. If you are looking for a neutral to create a thread throughout your entire home, this is the color for you.
Moody Blues
4. Benjamin Moore HC-164 Puritan Gray
There is nothing gray about this smoky blue. It is earthy enough that I almost consider a neutral. Pairs beautifully with golds, plums and emerald greens.
5. Benjamin Moore 1564 Beach Glass
The name says it all. A fantastic bedroom color if your goal is peace and serenity.
Especially love it with deep rich wood tones.
6. Benjamin Moore 2123-60 Sea Foam
A fresh and airy blue tint. Don’t be fooled, it can look almost white on a color swatch. But when painted on all four walls, the result is a soft, cashmere-like sky blue. It’s a winner if you are going for an understated effect.
Accents
7. Benjamin Moore 713 Polished Slate
An earthy blue/green, Polished Slate is saturated and mysterious. Pairs beautifully with any neutral. One of the few deep tones that doesn’t have to be relegated to just an accent. Be bold and paint an entire room.
8. Benjamin Moore HC-168 Chelsea Gray
This timeless gray reminds me of gray flannel. Like a well-dressed gentlemen, this urban shade of gray adds a sophisticated quality to any space.
9. Benjamin Moore HC-166 Kendall Charcoal
This rich, deep and luxurious charcoal gray is beautiful paired with crisp white woodwork. Its warm base allows it to work well in almost any color scheme.
10. Benjamin Moore CSP-1150 Paper Lantern
Not red. Not orange. This fiery tone adds excitement and depth. Pairs beautifully with black lamp shades or woodwork. Especially impactful on a ceiling to add drama.
