I love a good bag. Clutches in particular.
This fall there are countless options and Lancaster has some fabulous picks. I always had a “day bag” and others for night. I find those lines blurring because I’ve been using my clutches (previously only at night) in my daytime rotation. And, I don’t feel you need one bag for each season. With all the gorgeous colors available you can get more mileage from that yellow bag you loved this summer. Yes, yellow can work in the fall. Or, try mustard, pink or sky blue.
I love a tote bag for weekends or traveling. I use one as my carry-everything-to-work bag as well. Traveling? Throw your iPad, magazines, clutch and wallet in and you’re good to go. I find leather is a good choice. Get one with metal feet if possible; it will hold up better when tucking it under the passenger seat.
Need versatility? Crossbodies: they’re workhorses! You can find mini to larger sizes. These allow hands-free movement and always fall into my weekend rotation. If you already have a neutral, add an animal print, graphic black and white or burgundy to your collection. Burgundy is a great choice if you don’t want neutral but something season after season. It will pair nicely with navy, tan, black, green and yellow. If you want a different shape, try a canteen style.
Satchels are still on-point this season. A variety of colors and metallic embellishments add updated style. Think squared off edges with gold or silver corner hardware. For me, these bags typically fall into the “day” category but they can handle drinks after work too (or tuck in a clutch and switch the essentials out before meeting friends after work).
I recently added a fringe bag to my collection. It was an investment piece for me, but it checked all the right boxes: classic look, neutral color and well-made. And, it’s a clutch, over the shoulder and crossbody all in one! If you’re thinking of fringe also look at the bucket bag.
The best in my opinion is a clutch. Oversized, mid-sized or small. There really is one that will work for anything, including the day. Personally, for day, I go oversized and/or one with a handle. Vintage clutches are fantastic and you can find different styles reasonably priced. Style trick: if you have a smaller satchel or crossbody, tuck the strap into the main body and use it as a clutch.
Bright colors, chains and graphic prints across all handbag styles are really big this year. A clutch with chains has got to be on my list for this season! The chain adds some visual weight and edge making it a fresh look. Fur and animal prints are also hot items. I’ve found vintage bags can help you nail these looks.
Don’t shy away from mixing bag patterns and colors with other accessories. They do not need, and should not, match this year! Enjoy and hope to see you around the city.
Enjoy!
just picked up one of these Jennifer Haley bags (the black one above with fringe is now mine). Gorgeous! Find them at Taupe
Loving this animal print clutch from Pappagallo.
Crossbody, totes and satchels from Foley & Corinna can be picked up at Sophie Stargazer. The crossbody pictured above in brown can fold over and tuck the strap in to double as a clutch as well! I’m considering a special order of one of these in cranberry.
Undone is carrying some beautiful Liebeskind bags for the fall.
