Blue tones have been classics in the fashion scene for years, but this summer they seem to spread across a wide range of shades. This gives all of us a chance to embrace this color trend. This was a color I tended to gravitate to when I was in high school and I haven’t really revisited until this year when I started trying to add it back into my wardrobe as an alternative to black. For me personally, I tend to default to darker shades such as navy.
This year I’m seeing blues appearing from denim to elegant gowns; suits to handbags. With the help of the classic blue tones including navy, we can create some really great looks. Some of the pieces you get for summer can also help transition into fall by simply pairing them with light tans and deep wine reds which will be popular in the upcoming months. For example, take this simple shirtdress below. I will wear that now to work and add black tights and boots to it for the fall with a jacket.
Aquamarine is another version of blue that fits the hot August days perfectly. Pair this cool and calming shade with denim (I would opt for a darker wash, personally) or white. It is a color that looks equally good on those of us with lighter skin tones and with darker or tanned skin. The shrug example below is one of my go-to pieces throughout the summer. If you want to give it some life, add it over red...it’s a great punch to the softer aquamarine shade.
If you’re still looking for a blue alternative, try more of a marine shade. This blue is a higher intensity blue and looks stunning with gold accents. If it’s a little too much for you, try adding this shade in a shoe or a bag. I would pair this with white for a high contrast or light tan to bring attention to the blue without it seeming too harsh.
Enjoy adding this color into your wardrobe now and into the fall!
