Handcrafted For Everyday Living
Kurt Brantner, owner of Kurt Brantner Pottery, has recently opened up a new gallery in Carlisle. Kurt was trained in the folk potteries of North Carolina for several years as an apprentice and production potter. Currently, he specializes in making pottery with local clays in the natural-ash glaze style, which involves firing a large wood kiln for several days at a time in order to create incredibly unique surfaces that mimic geologic formations from the natural world. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday, 3-7 p.m., and Saturday, 10-5 p.m.

All About The Locals
What does the Saturday after Thanksgiving mean to you? For some it’s the day after blowing way too much money on those Black Friday sales, but for others it’s all about shopping and dining local. Small Business Saturday has been such a huge success for the local businesses in the City of Lancaster that Lancaster City Alliance is campaigning to make every day Small Business Saturday in Lancaster City, saying, “One day on the calendar is simply not enough to celebrate our exciting merchant community.” Make it your mission to support your friends, family and neighbors: #SHOPSMALL and #DINELOCAL.

Beauty In The Art
Listen up, dancers! There’s a new studio in town. This September, The Pennsylvania Ballet Academy opened up its new studio in Camp Hill, featuring a design that focuses on its dancers with gorgeous open beams and a top floor that overlooks every studio. Artistic directors Davit Karapetyan and Vanessa Zahorian share their passion for dance and want to give it to the kids: “For us it’s about passing on our passion, and to see the kids’ growth is so fulfilling.” They offer a variety of classes, from classical tech, ballet and pointe training to contemporary and tap dancing. Their focus is on practice and teaching kids different styles of training and dance. Age groups vary, and special needs classes are offered weekly.
