1. Put Pep in Your Party Planning
Adrianne Pepitone not only owns a successful local party planning business, Studio Pep, she is also a busy mother of two young kiddos.
Adrianne’s plan was to help other mothers with their party planning efforts, because as a busy mom herself, she knows how difficult it can be to plan a great party all on your own. Despite her schedule, she somehow manages to juggle everything. “I have an amazing support system that we lovingly call ‘the mom squad.’ We embrace the ‘it takes a village’ mentality and support each other in motherhood and reaching our professional goals by helping each other out any way we can,” she says. As a bonus, all of her party products, like balloons and confetti, are homemade and hand-pressed. With someone like Adrianne on your side, any celebration is bound to be party perfect.

2. A New Way to Play
While downtown York has been flourishing with artisans and businesses, one new entrepreneur stands out as gearing her craft specifically toward children. The Curious Little Playhouse, founded by Jen Swanner, is an entertainment venue just for kids. Two of Swanner’s loves, children and theater, come together in this new business venture; there are dress-up stations and a stage area, as well as multiple other play structures for kids to let their imaginations run wild. There are even two royal thrones for The White Rose King and Queen, paying homage to York’s namesake as the White Rose City. Swanner says that the playhouse can host birthday parties and play groups. The Curious Little Playhouse is open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

4. Trotting for a Cause
What Does a Police Horse Do? is the newest children's book by Ellen F. Feld, and it shows exactly what the mounted police of Lancaster County do. This story follows Liam, a police horse, and his partner, Officer Eric Lukacs, and illustrates their patrolling of the city, meeting with school children, and even helping with crowd control for large events. Perhaps the best part of this book is that a portion of every sale is donated to the Lancaster City Police Mounted and K-9 Units.
