HARRISBURG, PA — Harrisburg’s House of Vegans, best known for its style of vegan burgers and vegan soul food, is launching a crowdfunding campaign to support its potential move to a new location. Details are not yet confirmed, but its owner said it may be in the works.
“We want to continue to provide our customers with a great vegan dining experience,” said House of Vegans owner Stefan Hawkins. “We are scouting new locations to help with this.”
The forthcoming online crowdfunding campaign aims to increase House of Vegans’ customer engagement and experience. Hawkins said the funds will be used to scout new locations and purchase new kitchen equipment.
In early February, House of Vegans temporarily suspended its kitchen operations at its Third Street location in Midtown. Although the kitchen operations are suspended, Hawkins said he expects House of Vegans to resume kitchen operations, but is unsure if that will be at the current Third Street location or another Harrisburg location.
Hawkins opened the restaurant at the Third Street location during the COVID-19 pandemic. The lease had been signed prior to the pandemic, and House of Vegans, like other brick and mortar businesses, struggled against COVID-19 restrictions. Despite the social distancing mandates and travel restrictions, House of Vegans was greeted to much fanfare, including lines of people stretched around the block to try the vegan food.
Hawkins is also the owner of the Good Brotha’s Book Cafe in Midtown, which is directly adjacent to the House of Vegans Third Street. Good Brotha’s Book Cafe may carry select House of Vegans’ menu items.
