Zulema Valdez Lecture
to
Myers Auditorium, McComsey Hall Millersville University, 1 S. George Street, Millersville, Pennsylvania 17551
In this talk, Professor Valdez discusses the diversity of the Latino entrepreneurial experience in the United States. She applies a comparative and intersectional lens to investigate Latino entrepreneurship across race, ethnicity, class, and gender -- to better understand how systems of oppression and privilege condition the entrepreneurial fortunes of Latino/a Americans. She finds evidence that for many Latinos, entrepreneurship provides an alternative to low-wage, low-skilled work in the secondary sector of the economy; however, for a small but growing segment, entrepreneurship provides a pathway to middle class mobility and economic prosperity.
