Susquehanna Chorale Presents "Faith, Love, and Fancy"
to
High Center, Messiah College One College Avenue, Grantham, Pennsylvania 17027
The varied repertoire in the Chorale’s spring concerts will showcase the group’s versatility, in unaccompanied works and pieces featuring the piano and string quartet.
Monteverdi’s Beatus Vir is a wonderful example of the elegant music that bridged the Renaissance and Baroque periods. In contrast, contemporary composer Ola Gjeilo’s Dark Night of the Soul, based on a mystical poem by St. John of the Cross, alternates between urgency and quiet exhilaration. Come Ready and See Me is a charming and wistful expression of the universal yearning for love, while Jenny Kissed Me expresses the happy lightness when love is found. The fanciful in life is represented by Toch’s whimsical Geographical Fugue and Randy Newman’s Short People. The Chorale returns to faith in its final piece, Shine the Heavenly Light, newly commissioned from Rollow Dilworth.
