Janet Powers, Photographer and Retired Gettysburg College Professor presents:
FIGHTING POVERTY WITH TRADITIONAL CRAFTS IN BOSNIA
Beginning with the post-war situation in Bosnia, Powers will describe three Bosnian women’s groups and how these groups are using traditional crafts to
create new products and to earn money. A major focus will be on “Sarajevo Phoenix,” a group of fourteen women whose embroidered and crocheted products are marketed on ETSY and in south-central Pennsylvania at bazaars and arts councils. The lecture will take place in conjunction with Power’s photography exhibit, “The Balkan Backstory”, in CALC’s upper gallery.
