Presented by Robert S. Pickart. Robert Pickart, a 1981 graduate of Susquehanna University, is a senior scientist in the Physical Oceanography Department at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. He studies air-sea-ice interaction at high latitudes using a variety of observational techniques. He’s led dozens of research expeditions over the years and has published more than 100 scientific papers. His talk will chronicle an expedition to the Labrador Sea to characterize its wintertime sinking, an occurrence found in only select locations around the world, but one that is critical for maintaining the Earth’s climate.
