A Memoir of Life, Loss and Survival
to
Penn State Harrisburg W. Harrisburg Pike, Middletown, Pennsylvania 17057
Join Sherry V. Ostroff as she discusses her first book, "The Lucky One." This book recounts the experiences of Ostroff's mother Ita, who was born in the former Pale of Settlement, a large swath of land in western Russia where Jews were forced to live for centuries. In 1918, Ita was caught in the middle of a civil war that followed the abdication of the last tsar. Wave after wave of murderous anti-Jewish riots, or pogroms, descended upon Jewish shtetls, and the only chance for her survival was to escape.
Ostroff seeks to tell the story of adversity and triumph that has shaped her family's experience from Europe to the United States.
This event will be presented in the library Morrison Gallery on campus.
