Keefe's Art Exhibit
Millersville University of Pennsylvania W Cottage Ave, The Winter Visual and Performing Arts Center, Millersville, Pennsylvania 17551
On September 24 at 6:30, Millersville University will welcome the artist couple duo of Andrea Wohl Keefe and Colin Keefe. The event will be held in the Winter Visual and Performing Arts Center.
The art gallery at the Winter Center presents its first exhibition of the 2014-2015 season. We are presenting the artwork of Andrea Wohl Keefe and Colin Keefe in a joint show titled "Married." The husband and wife team are in the midst of a series exploring how the shared life of marriage impacts their individual work. This exhibition is comprised of mostly their individual work, curated by the artists to convene the process of looking at the marriage.
Andrea and Colin loved each other's work before they knew each other. Through 13 years of conversations, shared studios and a shared life, they've developed a deep understanding of each other's art practices what they make, why they make and how what the've paid attention to is a reflection of who they are.
Andrea sees in Colin's work someone who had the ability to focus and to stay committed to an idea and how beautiful that could look on a page. Colin has long admired Andrea's willingness to experiment with materials, color and composition in ways that comprise a visual, almost musical grammar all her own.
Over time they've come to recognize many connections between their practices. In the past few years, those connections have deepened. In the current bodies of work there's an ongoing background visual conversation, a sort of consonance in composition and content. Organic forms and architectural spaces inhabit both of their ways of making, and they each find themselves responding instinctively to what they see being made by the other in their studio.
As curators they've had many opportunities to collaborate on exhibition projects, but this is the first time they've shown their work together.
Price: This event is free and open to the public.
