“Insider/Outsider” Art Exhibit
to
Lebanon Valley College (Suzanne H. Arnold Gallery) North College Ave, Annville, Pennsylvania 17003-1400
“Insider/Outsider” (November 1–December 15, 2019) spans the ongoing development of social realism, which established itself as a strong current in American visual art beginning with the Ashcan School in the first decade of the 20th century. A shock to many early viewers, social realist art ignored academic traditions and center-staged subjects culled from the working class, the underclass, immigrant enclaves, and the destitute, and it achieved its aims without idealization or sentimental gloss. Insider/Outsider follows this current into the 21st century with paintings, prints, and photographs of contemporary visions of looking at the overlooked to further social activism. Gallery hours are Wednesday, 5–8 p.m., Thursday–Friday, 1–4:30 p.m., Saturday–Sunday, 11 a.m.–5 p.m., and by appointment for groups Please contact the Gallery at 717-867-6445 or gallery@lvc.edu to arrange a private Gallery talk for your school or organization.
