He Did It His Way concert celebrates the lives, romances, careers and hits of Frank Sinatra, Hoagy Carmichael, Duke Ellington, Johnny Black, Johnny Mercer, Nat King Cole, Artie Shaw, Dorsey Brothers, Glenn Miller, Paul Whiteman, Vaughn Monroe, Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, Ink Spots, Mills Brother and other Big Band artists.
“Mr. Lelen is a genial performer, with a pleasant tenor,” the New York Times said. “The songs he plays will never go out of date.”
In addition to period songs, Lelen will play vintage acoustic guitars for an authentic, back-in-the-day sound. Made by Regal, Gibson, Martin, Regal, Vega and other US firms, they make music that’s striking for its character, tone and sustain without use of pick-ups or electronic gimmicks.
“People of all ages love these songs, so don’t expect rock ‘n’ roll,” the musician said. “They’re also pleasantly surprised by the robust sound and classy look of vintage guitars.”
