Box Making Basics
to
In this class you will learn everything you need to know to build rectangular, decorative boxes out of book board; you will also learn different methods for covering your boxes using either decorative papers or bookcloth (paper backed cloth or buckram).
We’ll start by constructing a simple square box with low sides, than make a more complex box embellished with a separate lid and base. Finally, we’ll construct a rectangular box with a hinged lid. By the end of the class, you’ll be able to accurately measure all the pieces you need to make these three boxes in any size you desire. If there is time, you will learn how to divide the interior of your box into two sections.
You will need to bring the following to this class:
- self-healing cutting mat
- apron
- pencil
- notebook
- scissors
- metal edge to cut against (please, no cork-backed rulers)
- exacto-knife or other cutting tool with replaceable blades

- 2 containers for glue, with lids (not too big – good opportunity to recycle old containers)
