America and Christopher Cross
America, a light folk-rock band from London, England, boasted three members barely out of their teens when they became a musical sensation in the early 1970s, scoring numerous #1 hits and winning a Grammy for Best New Artist. Some of America’s best known songs include “A Horse with No Name,” “Ventura Highway,” “Tin Man,” “Lonely People,” “Sister Golden Hair,” and “You Can Do Magic.”
Christopher Cross was far and away the biggest new star of 1980. His smoothly sophisticated ballads helped define adult contemporary radio. Cross won five Grammy awards that same year, including Best New Artist and Album of the Year. His well-recognized hits include “Ride Like the Wind,” “Never Be the Same,” “Say You’ll Be Mine,” “Think of Laura,” and “Arthur’s Theme,” along with his Grammy winning Song of the Year, “Sailing.”
