Tina is the owner of Just Plain Yoga and has helped her community in many ways. During the pandemic, she kept her community connected and has supported other yoga studios. Her mantra is, “ All are welcome, come as you are.”
Who has been your biggest influence?
My Grandparents. They were Swiss immigrants who started a farm and a family in Panama and were ripped away during WWII and interned in Texas. They lost everything and they had not come willingly to this country. They had a rough start but eventually owned their own dairy farm and raised 7 successful kids. I remember them as loving, hardworking, and happy.
What motivated you to be involved in your community?
Partly it was international travel experiences and a degree in International Studies. I realized the only way to really change the world was to start in your own backyard, with your own community.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Don't be afraid to look stupid and don't worry about what other people think. I was far too concerned about what other people thought that I overlooked opportunities.
What’s your idea of self care?
Find a place where you can drop all of the mental/emotional psychological baggage and just be. It could be a warm bath, a retreat somewhere or a day with a friend who lets you be your true self.
What message do you have for the future generations of women?
Support other women in business and in life and be understanding. Don't put down fellow women, raise each other up and if you want to compete then be a good sport! As the world gets 'smaller' we must learn to work together and know what we can offer the larger whole. Do what you do better!
