Their Love Story
We met in 2015 in college at Mount St. Mary’s University in Maryland. Ben is from MD and I am from NJ. We spent about four years after college in a long distance relationship while I attended graduate school back in NJ. Ben started working a full time job in MD but drove up nearly every two weeks to spend the weekend with me while I studied and dealt with a busy school schedule. It was a difficult time for both of us but Ben has always been one of my biggest supports. He waited very patiently while I worked toward my career. We got engaged in October of 2020 at the Mount where we met. He proposed in front of our university sign. I finally moved to MD with him in January 2021 and we were married in March of 2022!

Their Inspiration
Most of the design of the wedding was based around items from loved ones, mainly our grandparents. My wedding bands are from Ben’s grandmother. The collection of various antique vases used in the centerpieces were from my grandmother and great uncle who had both passed away shortly after we set our date. Items from our parents and grandparents (ring pillow, lanterns, tiny décor touches) were used throughout the ceremony and reception. Subtle warm colors were worked in throughout. Several of the items were DIY projects we did with close friends in our wedding party (table numbers, signs). Everything really captured the warmth we feel from our friends and family. While there was a snowstorm the morning of the wedding, roads were clear and the sun came out just as I was getting ready to walk down the aisle. I like to think it was our loved ones up in heaven shining down on us. We couldn’t (and definitely didn’t) plan for it but the snow added a magical touch!

Their Advice
Initially, I really wanted a summer or fall wedding. We chose to pick an early spring/end of winter wedding because financially it enabled us to go with the venue we really wanted. While it was cold and I never pictured myself having snow on my wedding day, it turned out better than I could have ever imagined. My advice would be to keep an open mind, especially with twists and turns that come your way in the process. Our venue had an in-house caterer so we had less to search for and coordinate. Having the ceremony and reception in the same place saved us a lot of stress in planning logistics as well. We chose to do a first look so that photos could be taken prior to the ceremony. Less traveling between venues and photos first meant that we got more time with our guests!
