84 degrees and 170,000 square feet of adventure await in an unexpected place
I know, if we have to hear the kids say, “I’m bored!” one more time this winter…And there are only so many crafts we can do and movies we can watch while snowed in or stuck indoors over winter.
Beat the boredom, pack up the family and head to Camelback Lodge. Even if you’re not a snow bunny, there is so much to do, the words “I’m bored” will become a distant memory back home.
Finally, a ski resort where the non-skiers don’t have to sit around in the “lodge” (trust me, most of these are not the beautiful ones I picture in my head) waiting for the wait to be over.
Inside Aquatopia, the temperature is a balmy 84 degrees year-round. The largest indoor waterpark and family entertainment center in the Northeastern U.S. boasts seven pools, including a wavepool, an indoor/outdoor spa whirlpool, a lazy river and a toddlers’ pool. Signature attractions include: FlowRider (where guests can simulate boogie boarding) and Kartrite’s Quest (an Atlantis themed kids zone with an expedition boat and 84 water effects, it’s the world’s first revolutionary next generation AquaPlay structure). There’s also the Storm Chaser, America’s longest indoor uphill water coaster. No wonder it was voted the #1 indoor waterpark in the U.S. by USA TODAYS’s “10Best Readers’ Choice” poll.
With something for every age, head to Penguin Play Bay with the babies while older kids can cross the Nile by balancing on crocodile heads or play water basketball in Alley-Oop Lagoon.
Once everyone’s fingers and toes are pruny, dry out at Aracadia: A two-level family entertainment are with over 100 arcade games; or head for the ropes course, mini golf and laser tag.
If the buzzing of the arcades and waterpark rush are not your speed, how about a mother daughter spa day for kids ages four and up with glitter, nail art (and all paraben-free products) that includes a frozen yogurt shop finish? Or the Polka Dot Pots arts and crafts learning center?
Access to all this family fun is available with an overnight stay, so no need to book a plane ticket to somewhere warm. The outdoor adventurists of the family can have their fill of the snow while mom and the kids soak up some warmth and indoor fun!
Where to Find Winter Adventures in the Poconos
If you are bold enough to brave the cold, Cameback Mountain Resort has a plenty of winter activities to keep you busy. Hosting 34 trails, 16 lifts, the only Mountain Coaster in Pennsylvania, North America's longest zipline and the largest snow tubing park in the U.S.A.- it is the place to go to have fun in the snow!
You don't have to be a pro to go either- Camelback is a great mountain for the whole family. Whether skiing or snowboarding there are a variety of trails for all levels and abilities. Group and private lessons are offered by professionally trained ski and snowboard instructors for both kids and adults, and the mountain also offers gear and helmet rentals so you don't need to worry about having your own equipment. Camelback is also home to the Pennsylvania Center for Adaptive Sports, providing lessons and ski programs for mono-skiiers too!
Skiing and Snowboarding are great life-long sports - not only do they allow you to keep fit and active during the winter months, you'll also to create memories and connections with other fellow snow-enthusiasts. Camelback Mountain Resort is a great place to start a family tradition of skiing or riding together!
5 of my favorite things at Camelback Mountain:
-
The variety of trails and terrain keeps every run new and interesting
(My personal favorite trail is Rocket) -
Having lunch outside at the picnic tables
-
Warming up by the outdoor fire at Trails End
-
Waffles from the Waffle Cabin
-
The option of skiing day, night or a bit of both!
