If you’re embracing the Indian summer we’ve been experiencing, you may not be ready for pumpkins just quiet yet! In that case, keep pineapples trending into fall and try a Pineapple Jack-O-Lantern! This craft will look adorable on your front porch with trick-or-treaters, or on your table for your dinner party.
What you’ll need:
-
A pineapple (you’ll want to pick a pineapple with a flat bottom that will stand up without help & the greener the pineapple the longer it will last)
-
Gold spray paint (optional)
-
Knife, spoon & scissors
Directions:
-
Go a few inches down from the top of the pineapple (the leafy end), and cut the pineapple in half.
-
Using a sharp knife, cut straight down into the pumpkin following the edges and making a complete circle with the knife
-
Cut the internal circle of the pineapple with an “X”
-
Use a spoon and scoop out the pineapple. And, you’ll need to pour out the juice from time to time.
**Note: THIS IS MESSY! I thought I was going to be able to eat the pineapple, but it doesn’t come out so pretty. At best, you may be able to use the pineapple for a smoothie. -
Continue steps 2-4 until you reach the base of the pineapple
-
At the bottom of the pineapple the rind became a lot harder to scoop out with the spoon, so I took scissors and snipped it out.
-
Use steps 2-4 to empty out the top (detached) portion of the pineapple
-
Place the pineapple parts on a paper plates to let some of the juice drain out
-
Spray paint the exterior of pineapple and let dry (I used gold spray paint)
-
Use a small knife to carve out a face or design
-
Place a candle (I used an electric candle) & enjoy.
