With the warmth of the sun finally reaching (more of) my skin, I feel the need to change my beauty routine a little. Two of my biggest changes, though, are wearing less lipstick and more sunscreen.
I love the benefits of coconut oil, and its many uses, but I really love using it as lip balm too. I found an easy D.I.Y. recipe for tinted coconut oil lip balm that was so easy to make (even for someone like me). I love the added bonus of the sunscreen, too.
What you’ll need:
Coconut Oil
Petroleum Jelly
Lipstick
Vanilla extract
Microwavable bowl
Plastic spoon
Small pots for lip balm
Directions:
-
Melt equal parts petroleum jelly and coconut oil. I started with 2 tablespoons of each. You can always add more.
-
Melt in 30 second intervals, stirring between each.
-
Slowly add lipstick in until desired color is reached. You may need to melt some more.
-
Pour mixture into pots. Be careful not to overfill.
-
Put in freezer for 15 minutes.
-
Decorate pots if desired and enjoy.
Another item that I have been excited to make with coconut oil is sunscreen. Coconut oil itself has between 2 and 8 SPF, and carrot Seed essential oil has an SPF of 38 to 40. What makes it more beneficial than store-bought is that it doesn’t have any weird chemicals you can’t pronounce.
