I live in a small home, with one extremely demanding (albeit gorgeous!) cat and a husband who, if I’m being honest, is really kind of a keeper, despite his fatal flaw of being a major red wine drinker/spiller. Some weekends, I’m not quite sure that he actually swallowed any of it but rather baptized the sofa with a sprinkling of Malbec. This issue has turned me into some sort of psycho-wifey that follows him from room to room armed with a bottle of stain remover and a diatribe of accusations. Seriously, who have I become?
So, imagine my dilemma after years of slob-shaming my husband over a few speckles of wine, when it was I who dealt the sofa the final blow…pizza grease. My first thought: “Can I somehow blame this on the cat?” Hmmm, sofa smells like garlic which has never really been her thing, so that’s out.
I headed out to load up on cleaning supplies and found myself lying like the Menendez brothers when interrogated about the murder of their parents. “Yes, my HUSBAND dropped a slice of pizza on the sofa.” Despite the new arsenal of stain removers and a decent amount of elbow grease, the sofa was a goner. Time to shop!
Working at INTERIORS HOME has provided me with all kinds of training about the advancement of Performance Fabrics. In the past, these fabrics were only used in outdoor and commercial environments, felt like burlap and they were commonly found on booths in diners. Things have really changed. Take a look at the sophisticated, designer looks currently available:
INTERIORS HOME carries five primary Performance Fabric lines that can be applied to all types of seating and come in a wide variety of price points from entry level to luxury. While the new line-up of Performance Fabrics have amazing properties, they each have their own “super-powers”.
Fabrics by Revolution, for example are woven with Olefin yarn, which makes the fabric virtually unstainable and durable while also resistant to fading. The yarn is solution-dyed by mixing pigments in a liquid polymer.

Nuvella and Sunbrella, two other solution dyed fabrics, are highly successful in combatting stains and protecting against fading. Both can be cleaned with bleach while maintaining the original color. Sunbrella Fabric fibers are saturated to the core with highly UV-stable pigments. These shared textile properties make both Sunbrella and Nuvella excellent alternatives for outdoor seating.

Crypton, has built-in stain repellency and soil release technology that makes cleaning spots easy. Crypton also features enhanced odor and abrasion resistance which will keep your furniture fresh and looking like new. Crypton is a great choice for workhorse pieces like dining chairs and counter stools that are used heavily and run the risk of food and beverage stains.
Kashmira, a solid fabric sold exclusively by Flexsteel Furniture, can be best described as somewhere between fabric and leather. It fights off stains, ink, gum, and even the puncture from the sharp claws of a frisky feline due to its self-healing properties. It comes in many colors and prices out in the range of an entry level leather.
Where were all of these Super Hero fabrics when we bought our sofa 10 years ago? Under the advisement of the Design Team at INTERIORS HOME, we decided on Kashmira because hidden inside the fabric of my posh, soft upholstery lies the protection and integrity of a suit of armor. So, with a glass of Merlot in hand, I am happy to report that I have officially kicked my addiction to stain removers and slob-shaming. Cheers!
