“On the first day of any new job, there is always potential for some serious stomach butterflies! And I am certainly no exception to the rule – the day I started as an intern at Susquehanna Style, those butterflies were jumping around, but I was also very excited for what my new position would bring. What could be described as one of the most exciting days of my internship was certainly that first day, in which I first experienced the new world of a photo shoot. Not only was I exposed to the face-paced day of a shoot, but I also gained my first behind-the-scenes perspective on how a story comes together. It was a busy day, and it was also very rewarding.
My name is Erin Donovan, and I am currently working as an intern at Susquehanna Style for my final semester at Millersville University, and it’s been great so far. Since that eventful first day, I have also been involved in a number of other tasks, such as compiling articles for future issues of the magazine. Most recently I developed a Q&A article for Brad Rutter, a local of Lancaster County who competed on Jeopardy! and won over $3 million. And because I certainly don’t know how it feels to be a millionaire, it was interesting to ask questions and pick his brain a little!
Writing and experiencing new things have always been passions of mine, and so far I’ve been exposed to both of these things, and then some. And for that reason, I’m looking forward to the rest of my time at Susquehanna Style!”

“I think one of the main reasons I was hired at Susquehanna Style as a spring intern was because I talked about my love of food. Thank goodness Keely and Hannah felt the same way! Looking through older issues of the magazine has shown me recipes I am dying to try.
One day I was asked work on a very typical intern task with these recipes: go through all the past magazines, find where the recipes are and sort them into seasons. This daunting task had a purpose; it was to collect the recipes for the future Susquehanna Style seasonal cookbooks! After seeing what will be put into these cookbooks, even if I have moved far away from the Susquehanna Valley, when they are published I will be sure to get my hands on one!
The cookbooks are not the only food related task I’ve gotten to work on as an intern; I was also able to attend the Recipe Box photo shoot for the May issue, which is all about asparagus. My family owns a farm and has a field of asparagus so I have eaten it before, but never liked it much. Now, I think it may have just have been because of the way it was cooked in the past! (Sorry, Mom!) After the dishes were photographed we had the chance to taste them. My taste buds changed their minds after tasting the gnocchi with asparagus cream. Without a doubt, this is one recipe from the April issue that I cannot wait to try on my own.
As I will graduate in May from Millersville University, I am about to enter the real world and will not be able to just live off of my college cooking skills much longer. Susquehanna Style has broadened my view on food and has me craving to cook more than just macaroni and cheese. Hello Style Insiders, my name is Jessica McGowan and I am a food enthusiast!”
