The strengths, achievements and beauty of a woman should consistently be recognized and celebrated. In many cultures women are celebrated, respected and even worshipped. These women are goddesses or deities that represent the empowered woman.
The strength of a woman is a force to be reckoned with. ALL women are strong, persistent, divine and gifted. Women can and do, carry the weight of their home life, work life and the remaining other worlds upon their shoulders. Carrying it all with such extreme poise and divine beauty. Women hold it all together and make it look natural and easy.
There are numerous cultures in our world that try and belittle women of power, but there are also many cultures that celebrate and worship women and the magnificent spirit of a woman. These cultures find women to be important to society and everyday life.
The Greek and Roman mythology had a huge number of female goddesses and heroines in their folk tales and holy scriptures representing the many goddesses and legends. There are also many indigenous faiths around the world that worship countless female goddesses, too. Clearly, femininity has always been an integral part of religion, and indeed of civilization.
A great deal of modern Hinduism also swivels around the idea of a feminine aspect to the universe. I want to start the Hindu culture. Hinduism worships and respects women and the many strengths and powers a woman possesses. Hinduism is an ancient religion that began in present day India. In ancient Hindu scriptures women were worshipped in the form of goddesses to represent all woman's strength, beauty, wisdom , bravery and talent. In the Hindu culture Saraswati is the goddess of wisdom, music, and learning. Many devotees worship Sarasawati when they are searching for wisdom, education or musical depth. Her iconography shows her with four hands, two of which hold the veena, a musical instrument and one that holds money and the last hand that is empty. How perfect is the representation of Sarasawti of all women, past and present. Women are continually balancing their personal lives as well as tremendous amounts of other responsibilities like work, family and society. Another prominent goddess that is worshipped is Lakshmi the famous goddess of wealth, abundance, and fertility. She is worshiped during the festival of Deepawali, or the festival of light. Lakshmi has four hands and hold two lotuses with two of her hands and two other hands are empty. She does not only represent materialistic wealth but also light, glory, joy, and honor. She is a great representation of how women add endless amounts of joy, honor, glory and light to our societies. Women are usually the ones who push forward and lead with honor and joy. Women choose to add endless amounts of joy in homes, work environments and society. Durga is perhaps one of the most well-known manifestations of Shakti “power". Durga is the representation of feminine power in the universe. Her iconography shows her riding a lion or tiger and holding the trident. She is also portrayed with multiple hands and accompanied by the body of Mahisasur (evil) being stabbed by her trishul. Showing her strength, bravery and being able to conquer all evil and obstacles. She is what you would call a modern day “boss”. She is a great representation of how the persistence and strength of a woman is unstoppable and undefeated. A woman's strength is greater than any evil set to harm her. Women rise and women conquer.
The greatness of each of these goddesses is that they represent that a woman is capable of EVERYTHING & ANYTHING. A woman is a POSITIVE force in the world. She will CONQUER evil and BALANCE every aspect of life with beauty and poise. No matter what stage of history we may be in, women will always be a positive driving force in our world and in history.
All women should be acknowledged, celebrated and praised for their continual progression in society and in our world. Goddesses will be praised and so should every woman in our world today. We are all doing our best to balance everything in our lives and succeed. Keep being the powerful goddesses in your world and keep praising the great women in your world!
