You may have heard, but in case you didn't, I'm here to tell you sneakers aren't just for the gym anymore. They can totally be a casual, cool, comfortable, low-maintenance addition to a stylish outfit. As much as I love a gorgeous 4-inch heel, the fact that sneakers are having a serious moment in the spotlight appeals to my growing love of comfort. The challenge with this look can be understanding how to style your sneakers in a way that looks "chic" and not "sloppy." I've styled 7 different outfits to give you an edge in your sneaker style game. So go ahead and give it a try...your feet will thank you.

1. For a comfy, yet totally polished look, go monochromatic. Match black sneakers with black distressed denim and pull it altogether with a classic, slim cut black blazer. (Sneakers: Nike Free, Distressed Denim: Forever21, Black blazer: HM, Beanie: HM)

2. Try a pair of Converse with a cute dress or skirt! I love the classic look of Converse, the variety of styles and colors they come in, and the fact that they can up anyone's "cuteness factor." (Dress: HM, Cardigan: Billabong, Hat: Target, Sneakers: Converse)

3. You can add a pop of color and interest to any outfit with a colorful pair of sneakers! Cropped jeans and a button down trump any trendy combo that may be gracing the racks right now, but add some flair to your outfit by choosing a sneaker with a fun color or embellishment. (Button down: HM, Jeans: JCREW, Overcoat: Forever21, Sneakers: Michael Kors)

4. High-top sneakers add a little bit of street style. I love the unexpected look of high-top sneakers with a patterned pant, cropped jacket and girly handbag. In this case, opposites truly attract, and yet the color palette pulls the entire outfit together. (Cropped pants: Ann Taylor, Cropped jacket: Anthropologie, Handbag: DSW, Sunnies: Steve Madden, Sneakers: Nike)

5. Sequined pants aren't reserved just for a special celebration...they just need toned down with a great pair of sneakers! The denim jacket also adds to the casual vibe of this outfit and honestly with sequined pants, sneakers and coffee, who's not able to take on world? (Sequined pants: Forever21, Denim jacket: Abercrombie, Sneakers: Nike)

6. These New Balance retro looking sneakers keep in step with the laid back look of distressed denim. I wear a lot of gray, so these were the perfect addition to my wardrobe and a great neutral shoe to wear with many different outfits. I upped the chic factor by adding an oversized jacket with a great print and retro sunnies to keep with the throwback look.

7. What could be more classic than stripes and high-top converse? This simple cotton dress keeps it comfortable with sneakers, soft leather and a fun overnight tote. The leather jacket and high-top converse make for a little hipster edge to a classic stripped dress. (Dress: Forever21, Jacket: Abercrombie, Tote: Target, Sneakers: Converse)
