Whether we like it or not, fall is here and it’s in full swing! Just like the temperatures change, so does our skin. My skin is completely different in the fall and winter than in the spring and summer. It would be lovely to live in a place where the climate is the same. Unfortunately, we don’t, so we need to adjust as the temperatures do!
Here are a few tips to help get your skin ready for the cooler climate:
1. Take shorter showers. It’s as simple as that. Long, hot showers suck the moisture right out of your skin. The shorter the shower, the better.
2. Buy a humidifier. If you have a humidifier system built into your home, you are one step ahead. If not, investing in one is a good idea. It replaces the moisture in air inside your home that the colder temperatures seem to eliminate.
3. Still use sunscreen. Just because you aren’t lounging by the pool doesn’t mean you don’t need to protect your skin. You should still lather on the sunscreen. Luckily, a lot of makeup has sunscreen already in it, so while you are applying your makeup, you are also protecting your skin. Just don’t forget about any other part of your body that may be exposed to the sun.
4. Complete a skin exam. We tend to spend more time in the sun over the summer for obvious reasons. Because of all of that extra sun exposure, our skin is more prone to sun spots, new moles, damage, etc. Now is a good time to check your skin from head to toe. If you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself, you can always head to your doctor to do a thorough screening. Melanoma is no joke; it is something that should be taken seriously and can be prevented or caught early with regular skin checks.
5. Change your skincare routine. Like I said previously, our skin changes just like the temperatures do. It’s wise to adjust your skincare routine. For me, it is changing to a moisturizer that is a little bit stronger and adding an exfoliator to my routine. My skin gets really dry in the colder months. An exfoliator helps get rid of the dead, dry skin.
6. Inventory check. Just like you would clean out your closet, clean out your beauty cabinet. Get rid of half empty, old or expired products. You don’t need them anymore!
Now that you have your skin ready, here are some fall beauty trends you should be on the lookout for:
1. Metallic accents. Whether it is a shimmery gold eyeliner or bronze eye shadow, you will be right on trend.
2. Barely there makeup. Ladies rejoice! We don’t need to spend as much time getting ready now that the au naturale look is in style!
3. Berry lips. Regardless of your complexion, there is a shade of berry perfect for you.
