Suede is making a comeback in a big way this spring. Designers are not only using it in traditional ways such as shoes and bags, but on everything from trench coats to cocktail dresses.
This season suede is showing up in fun colors on bags, which I think this is a great way to add the trend to your wardrobe without having to commit to a jacket or dress that can be expensive. You can find both old and new options. So, don’t forget to try out our local vintage and consignment shops. The one pictured here is a fun mix of leather stripes and gray suede.
As we all start to lean into the warm glow of spring and leisurely evenings and weekends out and about, you can swap your winter leather biker jacket for a suede version. Nights can still be cool in May so this adds a bit of warmth while keeping the feeling light-hearted. Draped-style jackets are also very popular this season and would look great for a poolside party. If you really want to make a statement check out a suede trench coat in one of spring’s bright hues. (OK, truth—I would never spend this for a jacket, but it would be fun to at least try it on!) Trends seem to sway from 60s- through 70s-inspired treatments, many also combining another hot trend this season: fringe (see post from last month).
Not to be left out, you will also see suede on skirts and dresses. Colors range from soft pastels to navy, yellows, and traditional tan or brown tones. This is a great 70s version that I’m eyeing up to add into my wardrobe this year.
Shoes have been a long-standing suede staple. But, try adding a pair in a different style or in a brighter color than what you would normally try. You’ll be surprised at how many ways you can wear them. Since boots are always a staple year-round for me, I’ll be getting extra wear out of my gray over-the-knee boots with mini skirts. I also just added this fun pair of light tan booties to my summer mix of shoes. They are going to look great with everything from floaty dresses to shorts.
This is definitely a trend you can invest in because it can be worn year-round and is really seasonless. So give it a try!
