Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2015 is anything but expected, unlike the past trends of bright and vibrant hues. Color experts predicted Marsala, an earthy deep red with brown and pink undertones, to be the top hue in fashion, décor, and more.
“Marsala is a subtly seductive shade, one that draws us into its embracing warmth,” says Pantone’s executive director, Leatrice Eiseman. The color is accentuated when paired with turquoise; shades of blue; warm neutrals like cream, taupe, or bronze; and even contrasting shades of red.
“Add elegance to any room by incorporating this rich and welcoming hue in accent pieces, accessories and paint,” Pantone reccomends. “Marsala’s plush characteristics are enhanced when the color is applied to textured surfaces, making it an ideal choice for rugs and upholstered living room furniture.”
The color experts also note that “Marsala is a natural fit for the kitchen and dining room–making it ideal for tabletop, small appliances and linens throughout the home.” Decorative pillows in this deep-red shade would liven up a cream-colored sofa, and a modern vase could add dimension to a cherry wood table.
