What’s Cooking
An iconic Lancaster County landmark is spicing things up. Kitchen Kettle Village has completed a series of renovations that encourage visitors to explore shops on the south side of the property located along Route 340. Kitchen Kettle Village began in 1954 and grew to incorporate over forty shops, restaurants, and lodging, as well as the famous Jam and Relish Kitchen. After the renovations, the Jam and Relish Kitchen still serves as the center of the village for Kitchen Kettle, but other changes include adding a second retail hub. The Country Life store was moved from Route 340 to a new location behind the Inn at Kitchen Kettle Village and The Olive Basin, an olive oil taproom, opened for business. A final change is the opening of a Waltz Vineyards tasting room in a barn that was renovated to a retail space. Whether you’re a first-time guest or a returning visitor, stop by Kitchen Kettle Village to check out all that is new, try a sample at the Jam and Relish Kitchen, or simply enjoy a stroll through the village’s many shops.

Amish Scrambled Eggs with Humor | By Joeseph “Chool” Crawshaw
Get a little glimpse of paradise. More specifically, Paradise, Pennsylvania. First-time author and retired educator Joseph “Chool” Crawshaw gives a charming account of his experiences operating a bed-and-breakfast in Amish country. Crawshaw and his wife Gloria have been in the innkeeping business for seventeen years and have hosted guests from all around the world. The bed-and-breakfast fables, as Crawshaw refers to them, describe his interactions with his guests as well as his Amish neighbors. He arranges the sections of the book in the form of a menu and includes tales as well as frequently asked questions about the Amish. If you’re looking to experience Crawshaw’s hospitality, his bed-and-breakfast, Frogtown Acres, has rooms ready and waiting.

What is your favorite spot in the Susquehanna Valley to grab an ice cream cone?
“The Whistle Stop. They have great peanut butter ice cream and it's been in the East Pennsboro community for years. As a matter of fact, my parents, at a very young age, had their first date there.”
