Profiles of local organizations doing the greater good in our communities
For more than 15 years, Aaron’s Acres has been providing social and recreational programs to children and young adults with special needs. The goal is to promote age-appropriate socialization and communication skills. Established in Lancaster County in 1998, Aaron’s Acres has also served families in Berks and Dauphin counties for nearly as many years.
Some of the opportunities available include monthly school-year recreational outings and two-week summer camps featuring a supportive atmosphere and activities such as animal therapy, swimming and arts and crafts. Also offered are parent support groups, which act as organized opportunities to meet and talk with other parents of children with disabilities. If you are interested in volunteering with or donating to Aaron’s Acres, visit the Partnerships or Donate tabs of their website.

Reader’s Lens: Susquehanna Valley Snapshots
In honor of National Siblings Month, we asked readers to submit their favorite sibling photos.
G. Marie Spotts, of Harrisonburg, Va., sent us this one, which pictures her with sister and York resident Providence Spotts. She says: “This picture, of all the ones we have from birth, will always be my favorite. My sister worked over 48 hours straight just so she could be the one to take me to the hospital for my cancer surgery. Unconditional love!”

If you’ve been dashing out of the office on your coffee break to catch the Lancaster Cupcake truck at their nearest location, you’ll be excited to hear that their frosting-topped favorites now have a permanent home. Located on East Main Street in Mountville, Lancaster Cupcake’s new bakery location is serving up the same crave-worthy cupcakes as their truck (which will still be stationed at several Lancaster locations and is also available to rent for special events). Stop by in April to try a Coconut Lime cupcake, featuring fluffy coconut cake with lime curd filling and light coconut buttercream frosting, or perhaps a Tiramisu Delight, made with vanilla cake, coffee liqueur-infused mascarpone cheese filling and whipped cream cheese buttercream frosting. Call or check www.facebook.com/lancastercupcake for daily hours.
