An OBX fave in Central PA
A cult fave of the Outer Banks has washed ashore in Central PA. Duck Donuts’ Lancaster location, which opened in May, marks the franchise’s 23rd store and Mechanicsburg, which opens this month, brings the company full circle to founder and franchising company owner Russ DiGilio’s hometown. DiGilio founded the company in Duck, North Carolina in 2006 when his family couldn’t find freshly made donuts there. Many mid staters became fans vacationing in OBX. “The minute you walk into our store you feel like you’re at the beach…[an] experience with special memories,” says Lancaster owner Todd Bidelman. Customize the made-to-order cake donuts with a coating of cinnamon sugar, maple icing and more, then choose from toppings like shredded coconut, chopped peanuts or even bacon. Duck Donuts’ own freshly brewed coffee blends are the perfect companion to wash down your sweet snack.

Market Street Move
Viet Thai blends Vietnamese and Thai flavors to create delectable dishes in a new Market Street location. This restaurant packs unique flavor into their dishes with ingredients like galangal, kaffir lime leaves and lemongrass. Co-owner Jennifer Nguyen’s father was born Cambodia, so you can also find some Cambodian influence in these dishes. Her goal is to make customers feel at home when they come to sit down in her restaurant. Viet Thai offers distinctive dishes to savor, such as their coconut rice noodles with shrimp and scallops or their most popular dishes, pad thai and chicken satay.

Growing Green
Polished Spa, Salon & Wellness has taken their business to the next level by both expanding and going green. The expansion allowed owner Stacey Sheely to employ more people, as well as to positively impact the environment. The salon is practicing sustainability by managing the way they deal with waste. They are partnered with Green Circle Salons, which means they will recycle hair clippings, color tubes and aluminum foils. These used items will be recycled and the hair can be used to help clean up oil spills. Along with the physical expansion and green movement, their line of services also expanded with this move to West Shore plaza.

Popular Pizza
DiCarlo’s, with locations across the river in York plus in three other states, has landed in Lancaster. This restaurant keeps it simple, offering pizza, sandwiches, calzones and sides. This straightforward menu does not crush the customer under too many choices, but instead focuses on consistency. Their retro-modern atmosphere provides a perfect setting to get comfortable and enjoy a slice. Their pizza is made in the traditional Italian way, topped with cheese right after it comes out of the oven. Their crispy brick oven style crust is not too thick and not too thin. If you’re not craving pizza, try other popular items like their steak calzone or the steak sandwich.
