A Taste of Good Fortune
Aren’t you just loving all of York’s new restaurants and breweries? We sure are! New to the mix is Crystal Ball Brewing Co.’s tasting room at the former Weinbrom Jewelers building. CBBC was founded in May 2014 by Jesse De Salvo, Ryan Johnstonbaugh and Ashley Garvick. Using the finest, freshest and most local ingredients possible, CBBC combines traditional brewing techniques and the latest technology to produce excellent brews. Their quality product stems from a true love for good beer, and every batch is carefully crafted with passion, vision and fun. CBBC’s brews range from traditional offerings to the more experimental, like coconut porter. The new tasting room offers a range of about 12 beers on tap. CBBC will continue to brew its beer at its microbrewery on West King Street in West York, and the tasting room there will remain open, giving the company two tasting rooms. More beer is always a good thing in our book.

Drivers Bid; You Win!
Move aside, Uber and Lyft—there’s a new ride-hailing company in town. CabbyGo, an app started by a Mechanicsburg native, was recently approved by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission to operate as a transportation network company (TNC). CabbyGo isn’t like other ride-hailing apps, though. Unlike its competitors, CabbyGo gives drivers the chance to bid on ride prices, so passengers can make a decision based on price, distance or a driver’s previous ratings. CabbyGo also has a platform for event holders, social groups, protesters, bars and restaurants to create and share events publicly and privately via Twitter, Facebook, SMS and email. With CabbyGo, you can create and share an event with all of your guests via your Facebook page, and then they can get a ride to the event by clicking on it. Pretty cool, right? Hitch a ride, save money and support local with CabbyGo—the newest ride-hailing service in PA.

Better Together
Two long-serving Lancaster County organizations addressing conflict and crime joined to form one comprehensive service in February. Conflict Resolution Services and the Center for Community Peacemaking are now collaborating under the name Advoz. “The word comes from the Latin for ‘voice’ and inherently means ‘adding voice to dialogue,’” says Chris Fitz, the new organization’s executive director of community engagement. CRS has offered mediation as a meaningful, cost-effective alternative to conflicts and civil court proceedings since 1980. CCP has used mediation methods to repair harm for both crime victims and offenders, especially in the juvenile justice system, since 1994. With the merger, Advoz is now positioned as a leader across Pennsylvania for offering mediation and restorative justice services in Lancaster County and beyond. Handling more than 200 referrals of crimes and conflicts each year—and holding dozens of preventative trainings—Advoz is able to leverage dozens of skilled volunteers and staff for further proactive work in schools, businesses and neighborhoods.
