“Our most requested entrée beyond a doubt,” says manager Jen Wanner, “is the shortribs.” They’re braised in Madeira wine and served with Mornay mac and cheese and green beans.
Since 1998 The Belvedere Inn has been the place to be in Lancaster, whether after Fulton shows or First Friday festivities, for birthdays, engagements, or everyday dinners.
Built around 1876 by tobacco plantation owner James Rohr, the mansion is as elegantly appointed today as it might have been back then, only far more fabulous. Leopard stairs lead the way to Crazy Shirley’s bar upstairs (if you’re lucky, you’ll meet her at the hostess stand).
Known for his over-the-top holiday decorations, from Halloween to Valentine’s Day, owner Dean Oberholtzer spares no detail in the décor no matter what time of year. Christmas is a very special time at The Belvedere, from the whimsical Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer themed bar downstairs to several fantastical trees, with garland, lights and whimsy throughout.
The most popular tables at The Belvedere, as its known by locals, include the window seat in Crazy Shirley’s and a “four top” that overlooks Lemon Street, as well as a table that seats six in the main downstairs dining room where guests can see and be seen. The deck, in season, is the most lush floral paradise in town. In addition to the popular beef short ribs, the grilled Caesar salad, mussels in white wine, and lettuce-wrapped Kobe burgers are among the most popular dishes served up by chef Steve Drake and his team.
