Our annual bridal issue has us adoring all things romance, and what could be more romantic than a cocktail from the Paris, the City of Love? According to mixologist Sharon Groff of Lancaster’s iconic lounge The Belvedere Inn, the original French martini was mixed with vodka and Lillet, a French aperitif wine with pale golden coloring. With the rise in popularity of the cosmopolitan and other fruity martinis in the late 90s, however, the French martini underwent a pink-hued makeover. The modern version of this mixed drink is a combination of the French vodka Grey Goose, pineapple juice and Chambord, a raspberry liqueur. Groff recommends pairing The Belvedere’s French martini with complementary flavors from their menu, like Thai lettuce wraps with hints of pineapple or chicken and raspberry salad.
