"The Park before the Park"
to
Cumberland County Historical Society N Pitt Street, Carlisle, Pennsylvania 17013
Andre Weltman, Chairman of the Friends of Pine Grove Furnace State Park, will speak about a "free" amusement park built by Jackson Fuller in 1878, a generation before today's State Park was created. The popular amusement park drew more than 20,000 people annually and operated for about 25 years but is largely forgotten today. The presentation will include close examination of artwork in a 19th century promotional poster and review of later uses of the site including a Girl Scout Camp.
