In the first class, learn the basics of making paper from recycled materials and plant fibers while exploring Suminagashi paper marbling techniques. The paper produced will be incorporated into books that you will learn to bind by hand. We will explore the art of Paper-cutting, and transform the finished piece into a "carousel" artist book. Other handmade book methods will also be explored in depth, such as; the "accordion," "window," "flag," and case binding. The books can be used as a creative way to display artwork, poetry, narratives, or photographs.
