Innovative pianist extraordinaire Kathleen Supové joins NakedEye Ensemble to take you on a magical journey of discovery featuring a program of hybrid music including acoustic, electric, and robotic instruments. All works are by living composers, who create, shape, and influence the direction of music today.
Title: PIANO PIANO!
For this special concert with pianist Kathleen Supové, NakedEye presents new works by East Coast composers, including four world premieres. The traditional two-piano format is revisited with a contemporary twist and a childlike exploration of new sounds. In music by Lois Vierk, Randall Woolf, Zack Browning, Rusty Banks, Richard Belcastro, and Missy Mazzoli, instruments, both large (marimba, xylophone, timpani, drum set, grand pianos) and small (toy piano, melodica, bells, pieces of wood, and mischellaneous bits) take part in a revelry of fantastical noise.
The music is inspired from many places: astrophysicist Stephen Hawking and subatomic particles, Nassim Taleb’s idea of antifragility, Isabelle Eberhardt’s shift from aristocratic life in Switzerland to nomadic life in North Africa, the Vietnam War, the sounds of a bicycle, the combination of classical and blues-rock music, and meditation practices. Taking revelations from everyday life and study, the music arrangements for NakedEye experiment with sound and music like few other ensembles.
NakedEye was founded in 2009 and is directed by pianist Ju-Ping Song. Based in Lancaster, PA, it moves forward with a mission to promote, commission and present works by living composers throughout the world.
