Market Square Concerts 35th Anniversary Concert: Directors & Friends

On Saturday, January 21, at 8 pm, at Whitaker Center, Market Square Concerts will celebrate its 35th anniversary with a special program “Directors and Friends” featuring the world premiere of Duo for Violin and Piano by Harrisburg native composer Jeremy Gill, commissioned by Martin and Lucy Murray in honor of this occasion. MSC directors, Peter Sirotin and Ya-Ting Chang, will perform this new work, as well as the haunting Horn Trio by Brahms and the delightful “Trout” Quintet by Schubert with some of their friends and colleagues, Fiona Thompson, principal cellist of the Harrisburg Symphony; Michael Stepniak, violist and the Dean of Shenandoah Conservatory; Devin Howell, principal bassist of the HSO; and Geoffrey Pilkington, principal horn of the Washington National Opera at Kennedy Center. The concert will open with a performance of Chopin Scherzo No. 2 by 14-year old pianist, Zev Malina, as part of MSC’s Young Artists Performance Program which offers young, aspiring musicians professional performance opportunities.
