Kettering Corner W. Main Street, Annville, Pennsylvania 17003
Historic Old Annville Day, celebrated annually in that town’s historic center, will be held this year on Saturday, June 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The family-oriented event features a variety of foods, vendors, activities for children, and music groups.
In addition to specialty cupcakes from the classic food truck of the Sugar Whipped Bakery, community members will be able to purchase barbeque from the Blazing Swine, rib-eyes from Phil’s Concessions, Mediterranean faire from St. Anthony’s Coptic Church, or lunch items from Texas Roadhouse, the Catering Chef, Grilled Cheese Café, the Dude with Dogs, and the Bread Man.
Vendors will also offer a wide variety of arts and crafts, information about local organizations, and activities for children, including balloon art, face painting, and art projects. Dozens of booklets and novelties related to local history will be available at a substantive store staffed by the Friends of Old Annville.
Musical groups scheduled for a stage to be set up adjacent to Soprano’s Italian restaurant include Annville’s own Washington Band, the Quittapahilla Highlander bagpipes, Lee Moyer’s “Great American Songbook,” and Celtic music and dance. A stage near the Batdorf Restaurant will feature Bob Balthaser on banjo, the original musical stylings of the Mockingbirds and Matt Miskie, and Jim Rule’s family music.
Special events of several types return this year’s program by popular demand. Free bus tours of the Pennsy Supply quarry will takes participants from 450 feet above sea level to 80 feet below sea level. The tours will depart from the 300 block of West Main Street at regular intervals throughout the morning. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. A model train exhibit will be on display from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the historic Annville Train Station at 155 North Moyer Street in Annville.
Raffle tickets sold before and at the festival will afford purchasers a chance to win hundreds of dollars in prizes. Winners to be announced that day. First prize is a hand-quilted Tree-of-Life quilt which received the Viewers’ Choice Award (Best in Show) at the Lebanon Quilters’ Guild Show last November at the Lebanon County Expo Center. The quilt was professionally appraised at $2,100.
Proceeds from the festival and raffle support the Friends of Old Annville Façade Grant, which provides monies to projects that enhance Annville’s historic district along Main Street.
“We are very pleased with the growth of this event,” noted Michael Schroeder, co-president of Friends of Old Annville. “Because the leaders of our local government have arranged to have Main Street closed for the time, the day promises to be a safe and enjoyable celebration of this beautiful local streetscape.”
