Fall Garden Day
to
Penn State Extension of Cumberland County Allen Road, Carlisle, Pennsylvania 17013
On Saturday, September 17, 2016, join Penn State Extension for a morning of fall gardening know-how covering fruit, vegetables, and ornamentals, at Fall Garden Day, 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., at the Cumberland County Extension office, 310 Allen Road, Carlisle.
The registration fee is only $10.00 and includes handouts and light refreshments. Please register by September 14, as class size is limited, by calling 717-240-6500. Doors open on Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. and the first presentation begins at 9:00 a.m.
Backyard orchards can be a challenge to manage. Mike Basedow, of Penn State Extension in Adams County, explains how to manage pests and diseases on home fruit trees, including suggestions on when and what to spray to achieve quality fruit. You will also learn how to extend the vegetable growing season using low tunnels and how to add beautiful fall color to even small gardens with small trees, shrubs, and perennials.
Master Food Preserver Joann Godshall will be at Fall Garden Day to provide information and answer your questions about home food preservation.
The new 4-H Horse Club of Cumberland County will also be on hand from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. for their “Black Gold” fundraiser. Purchase 5-gallon buckets of “black gold” – aged horse manure – for a $5.00 donation. Autumn is a great time to work on improving your garden for next spring, and adding organic matter is a good start to soil improvement. Proceeds benefit 4-H horse club activities.
