Join the Choo Choo Barn in its passion to serve those in need by participating in Canned Food Fridays. The 28th annual Canned Food Fridays event returns to the Choo Choo Barn in Strasburg, PA, on December 2, 9, and 16, 2016 from 9am – 8pm and December 23 from 9am – 4pm. Admission to the Choo Choo Barn’s 1,700 square foot model train layout is free if you donate one non-perishable food item per person, regardless of age. Enjoy an enhanced holiday display and search for 55 hidden Santas, one for each of Choo Choo Barn’s 55 years.
Throughout its 27 year history, Canned Food Fridays has collected over 30 tons of food from nearly 50,000 visitors. This year, food collected will be donated to the Lampeter United Methodist Church Food Cupboard and the Chester County Food Bank. When deciding what to bring as your “canned good”, please note that the following items are the most highly demanded, per the food banks: peanut butter, canned meats (tuna and chicken), healthy cereal, pasta, fruit and rice. Please give generously – admission is at least one item per person!
After exploring the unique model train display, children are invited to visit with Santa Claus at Uncle Leroy’s candy and fudge kitchen, from 3:00 p.m. – to 8:00 p.m (December 2, 9 and 16 ONLY). After their visit with Santa, children will receive a special treat from the Choo Choo Barn and a coupon for a free cookie at Isaac’s Famous Grilled Sandwiches in Strasburg.
