The theme: Politically minded, this couple chose "red, white and blueberry," the blueberries representing the bride's home state, Maine. (Both majored in politics, and Jon works for a state senator in Harrisburg.) The programs were preppy striped, and the bridal party a mix of crisp colors and lines.Courtney let herself get “a little wild” with the bridesmaids’ cherry red shoes.
The proposal: Still just friends with Jon in college, Courtney moved back to Maine, and they began dating long-distance. When Jon tried to propose, Courtney was glued to the TV. Her sister was at the Boston marathon, which had just been bombed. Fortunately, Caitlyn was in the ladies’ room and came out only after the explosion. But it wasn’t the romantic proposal Jon had planned.
The details: A sophisticated cake featured white pearls, red florals and blueberries. White chair covers sported blue bows. Patriotic ribbons enclosed bridesmaid bouquets of dahlias, zinnias and ranunculus; lisianthus and creamy roses were added into the bride’s all white, hand tied bouquet. Wild Maine blueberry jam favors, grilled chicken topped with crab meat and shrimp, bistro steak medallions and asparagus carried out the classic wedding theme.
The threads: The bride’s Sottero & Midgley lace gown, with its sweetheart neckline, keyhole back and bead-embellished belt, lent a vivid contrast to the groomsmen’s brightly striped ties and the bridesmaids’ navy blue Jenny Yoos, red bouquets and snappy heels. Courtney's Kate Spade bow heels and beaded headpiece were inspired additions.
The toast: The bride’s sister Caitlyn recalled the times Courtney forced her to be a playmate, ruined her fun and tattled on her, but gave her credit for being a great role model.
The serendipity: After Jon’s miserable failure at the turntable (“I have no rhythm,” he says), the DJ asked the bride to come up and try it, where she discovered a natural spin talent.
