The theme: Travel, for this couple who ventured over 6,000 miles on their honeymoon. Mix in Wes Anderson movies, an autumn setting and a dream of a dress. Invites with a drawing of the couple clinched this Jeffrey-and-Jessica original.
The details: Navy blue, light gray, marigold and brick red florals draped luxuriantly over the wedding arch, vintage tables and a hanging centerpiece. Maps, compasses, globes and retro train ticket RSVPs carried out the theme. Jeff’s Star Wars-Lego theme was nixed, but the florist tucked Han Solo and Chewbacca in the boutonnieres. Old trunks and suitcases, an outdoor lounge and shabby-chic tables dressed up the rustic venue. Plaid blankets, hot cider and s’mores over a campfire warmed the guests as the perfect fall day cooled.
The shot: The photographers contrasted the bride’s lace bodice, scalloped hem and romantic silhouette with the groom’s funky bow tie and sneakers, posing them in a forest clearing, on a dock, in a pile of leaves.
The desserts: Handmade cake toppers were surrounded with Nutty Monkey, Carrot and Lemon Drop cupcakes, topped with autumn “leaves.”
The hitch: Jeff’s fake-break-up with Jessica to begin his proposal (“Our relationship cannot continue the way it is”) backfired. To avoid being punched, he quickly added, “I can’t date you anymore…because I want to marry you,” then held out the ring. “Not funny,” said the bride.
The honeymoon: Nurses, like Jeff, are never really off duty, even, in Chile. They traveled deep into the Patagonian wilderness, and when a Scottish gentleman the next yurt over had a medical emergency, Jeff was the only help. They rushed “this half-dead guy on the scariest ride of my entire life” to a hospital. Only then was the brain tumor found. Later, a letter with a UK postmark thanked him for saving the man’s life.
