MEANT TO BE: Danielle Grooms and Colin Doll dated in high school. She would doodle hearts with his name inside. They split during college, then dated off and on. Finally realized around 2009 that they were best friends and meant to be together.
THE DRESSES: Danielle just loves peach, ever since she has known the color existed. A friend offered to make the gown, but widespread searches for fabric in the right shade were fruitless. The scalloped lace finally appeared among 30 swatches from Mood, of “Project Runway” fame. The bridesmaids got dresses they could truly wear again when Danielle, working at Anthropologie, was unpacking a shipment and there they were, bohemian sundresses in black, white, yellow, and of course peach.
THE SHOES: The pointe-style shoes, meant to honor Danielle’s mom and her dance studio, are shipped only in France. The mother of a friend had them shipped to Danielle’s cousin who was studying there. They made it to the States just in time.
THE SERENDIPITY: The friend of a friend slated to perform the ceremony realized he was double-booked. Colin and Danielle wanted an officiant who knew them. They remembered his aunt joking about performing weddings near the family beach home. Would she do it? She was thrilled and quickly got her marriage certification.
THE BLOOMS: Color, meet texture. Blue thistle, local lilac, purple kale, chocolate artichoke. Peonies from the homes of Colin’s parents and grandparents were cut and frozen to hold their blooms until just before the wedding.
