If you are anything like me, a good night’s sleep used to be an ever-elusive object of desire (think Frodo and the One Ring!) that seemed to slip through my fingers every 24 hours or so. Yes, I am an expert insomniac. I had become entirely too comfortable with waking in the middle of the night with no one to keep me company but the infomercial copper cookware woman. I felt like I had conquered the world on the few mornings that I opened my eyes to sunlight and an annoyed 10-pound fluff ball who had poised herself on my larynx as she caterwauled for her breakfast.
After hours of tossing and turning on a relatively new mattress, I had come to the conclusion that the only way I actually slept through the night comfortably was if I was semi-sedated on Benadryl after an all too common allergic reaction to something or other. Then I learned that as a consequence of a poor night’s sleep, we crave high-sugar and high-carb foods throughout the day to boost our metabolisms. Deal breaker. My mattress was making me fat. (I knew it couldn’t possibly be the salt and vinegar potato chips or the dusty elliptical machine in the corner.) This meant war!
For me, the first line of defense in this war on fatigue, late night infomercials and let’s not forget unnecessary obesity, was a trip down the hall to Mattress 1st, the fresh, newly-expanded mattress store at INTERIORS HOME, the store that I work in.
Support Report: Body Mapping Technology
Do you stir through the night? As a test, make a conscious effort to note the position you wake up in and ask yourself if that was the same position that you tried to fall asleep in. If you typically change positions throughout the course of the night, comfort and support issues are clearly interfering with quality sleep patterns.
Cutting edge technology has virtually changed the way we shop for everything from wine to cat litter (don’t judge me). So, why not employ the newest methods to buy a mattress?
You can actually learn what your own body needs from a mattress based on your personal pressure map results from the complimentary Mattress 1st “Support Report.” The Support Report generates an image illustrating how well a mattress conforms to your body and provides a “comfort curve” which defines pressure distribution throughout your body. “Comfort” when sleeping occurs when pressure is distributed equilaterally.
Once you know your specific needs, a Certified Mattress Specialist will help you navigate the plethora of choices, from traditional innerspring models, hybrids comprised of both foam and springs, or strictly foam options. I had no idea that there were so many options within my budget.
My Support Report was dead-on in regard to my comfort issues. I had always believed that I preferred a super-firm mattress as I always hated the feeling of sinking into a soft mattress’ inner depths and then digging myself out of it in the morning. As it turns out, the best mattress for me based on spinal alignment and pressure point mapping, was actually a plush pillow top model hybrid with a spring system that completely eliminates that “sinking” feeling. Life changing purchase!
Who knew that buying a mattress could be such a high tech yet personalized experience? After seeing my detailed Support Report imaging, I can’t even imagine buying a mattress without it. Looks like the copper cookware person will have to get through the night without me. I’ll keep you posted on my anticipated mattress-induced weight loss.
